Getting started
Installation
1. Quit any previous Libred News Ticker instances
2. Download the latest DMG
3. Open the file and drag Libred into Applications
4. Launch from Applications (you may need to confirm you trust the developer)
Setup
Libred is designed to be minimal. All controls are accessed from the macOS menu bar.
1. Open Settings
2. Set your preferred:
- Scroll Duration
- Allowed ticker languages (premium users only, Free and Registered can only scroll one language edition at a time)
- Hide behind full screen - set to No if you want to see ticker scrolling in front of full screen viewing.
- Libred as a Login item - recommended
- Ticker Bottom Position - some applications, monitors need a little adjustment to ensure the ticker is snug to foot of screen, adjust here.
- Ticker Size - Broadcast size ot larger Times Square - The customisable 'Big Top' setting is only available to corporate users
- Display Mode - Premium users can display the Libred Ticker on multiple monitors
- Clickable Headlines - Set to 'yes' if you want to click through to publishers, only turn off if this inconveinient
- Chose PDB publication language - premimum users can select the language they would like their PDB to be published in, useful when following foreign language news
- Preferred Section - Choose which section Libred shuould focus on, (in beta)
- Morning Front Page - Premium users can chose to hide or show behind other apps.
3. Account - set your forst name so Libred News Ticker can personalise your experience, add your email to access more feed sources and join trial (tbc)
Feed selection
1. Open Feed Selector
2. Choose your Edition (language)
3. Select a Starter Pack (Essentials, Finance, Sport) 17 feeds for FREE unregistered users.
Optional (FREE registered users):
- Select up to 25 sources in a single language edition
- Set a priority source per section (used when other sources are quiet)
Optional (Premium users Free to try for 30 days - tbc):
- Select up to 100 sources across all language edition
- Set a priority source per section (used when other sources are quiet)
- select feed in any language, pdb will will be freshly published each day in your chosen language
Finalise
- Save your selection
- Confirm previous selction will be lost
Your ticker will begin updating after the current cycle completes.
How to understand the ticker text
- New headlines appear in bright white
- Older headlines fade to grey
- Headlines are clickable (sources are not)
- Publishers are always credited
Personal Daily Briefing (PDB)
- The pdb is a tldr quick read to catch up on the news of interest to you.
- The pdb will be sent to registered users and optional to subscribed users
- The pdb improves with the number of feeds selected, premium users can select across different language editions
Published daily at:
- 06:15
- 12:15 update
Initial installs may trigger an additional run before normal scheduling begins.
Front page
- The Libred front page refreshes each morning at 06:45 and cycles through headlines
- The front page cartoon is freshly drawn for each edition
- Subscribed users can turn off the front page.

Notes (current release)
- Apple silicon macOS only (Windows and mobile planned).
- Feeds and languages being added all the the time. This version has many more French and US English feeds added.
- Personal Daily Briefing (PDB) is still being refined but premium users can now select prefered publication language.
- Cartoons and editorial are in optimisation, you may observe poor quality editorial or front page images.
- Free mode works without email - feeds are limited to the 17 available in our starter packs.
- Free registered with email mode allows up to 25 sources to be selected in a single language edition.
- Premium and trial modes will allow upto 100 sources across language editions, priority feeds, priority sources, email and front page ON/OFF.
- It is recomended Libred News Ticker be added to login items in settings.
- It is recommended that MacOS dock is set to 'autohide'.
- We are testing pdb morning email, so you can read YOUR news on a mobile device
- We are building libred.net to host future releases and showcase some features
- Trial mode to be made available to registerred users in coming release offering premium experience.

Privacy
Libred does not track or profile users and does not share any user information with other companies.
The product is designed to:
- reduce news noise
- avoid attention-driven design
- separate content from user data
